911 Address in Grady County

How to obtain a 911 address in Grady County:

The Grady County Sheriff’s Office E-911 Communication Division assigns addresses for all residences or businesses outside city boundaries in Grady County. We do work with the municipalities of Amber, Minco, Alex, Ninnekah, Verden, and Rush Springs on addresses assignment. If you live within one of their city limits, we will contact their city hall and work with them on assigning the address. We do complete addressing for the Towns of Norge, Pocasset, and Bradley. We do not assign addresses for those within the city limits of Chickasha, Blanchard, and Tuttle. If you live within one of their city limits, they will do their own addressing. You will need to contact their city hall and ask for 911 Addressing, or sometimes it is called an Office of Community Development.

Grady County 911 assigns addresses for structures only. We do not assign addresses for undeveloped property (vacant land). For this you will need to use a legal description or driving directions. To obtain the legal description, you can use the Grady County Assessor's Office public online interactive map at https://www.efsedge.com/Grady/

To obtain parcel or legal description using this site, click on the manilla folder in the top right portion and use the options in the pop-up menu. Look for the Parcel option and click that box. You then must zoom down to a certain level on the map and the parcels will appear. Once they appear you can click on a parcel and another box will pop up with information on that parcel. Please note, while using the parcel information map, the satellite imagery is not perfectly aligned with the parcel drawings. You have to take this into account when looking at the map.

To obtain a new address, you will need to fill out a 911 Address Application using a link on this page. The next step would be to determine a precise location of where the structure will be located and where the driveway will connect to the county road/street. For this step you will need to contact Captain Joshua Huffines at 405-222-5085 ext 239 or email him your 911 Address Application and driving directions from the nearest intersection, or a neighboring address. Capt. Huffines’ email address is: jhuffines@gradycosheriff.com

Addresses within Grady County are assigned based on their location along the road, where the entry point (driveway) meets the county road or street, and the map grid. Structures on the north and west sides of the road are assigned even number addresses and structures on the south and east side of the road are assigned odd numbers. All County Roads run east and west, while all County Streets run north and south. Once Captain Huffines has received your 911 Address Application and the precise location has been determined and verified, work will begin on getting the address assigned and entered into the MSAG (Master Street Address Guide). We will target a 48-to-72-hour turnaround time, but please allow up to 10 business days to get this process done.

What do I do when I receive my address?

Once work is finished on your address, you will be contacted and you will be sent a 911 Address Verification Letter and a map showing your new address assigned in the system. This letter is what you will need as proof of address for the postal service or any other utilities, banks, realtors, etc. You will need to notify your local post office of the new address. They will need the Address Verification Letter and the map. The Post Office will instruct you as to where to place your mailbox. You should post your assigned address on your structure and/or mailbox so it is clearly visible for Emergency Responders. Reflective markers are recommended. Especially in a home where someone may reside that has medical conditions.

Google Maps, Bing Maps, Yahoo Maps, MapQuest, etc. other mapping applications:

Mapping applications such as the ones listed above do not obtain their addressing data from Grady County 911. They can, but often choose not to. They are all independent, private companies and we have no control over them. Often FedEx, UPS or vendors making deliveries use these mapping applications. If your address is not displaying in the correct location using ones of these applications, you may submit a correction to that application on your own. We will however submit each new address we assign to Google Maps. How often they update and add new submissions is at their discretion. Please note just because your address may not be displaying or showing correctly on one of the map services, this does not mean that emergency services cannot locate your address. Again, our mapping system is not one of these private mapping systems.

Why Can't I Just Use My Route and Box Number?

This is a very common question. The Route and Box number provided over the years by the US Postal Service was designed for mail delivery only. The Routes meander up and down roads in the general path that the Postman delivers the mail. They provide NO physical address related information that can be applied across a large geographical area. In fact, you usually see many nearly duplicated mailboxes such as RT 1 BOX 52 and RT 1 BOX 52A or RT 1 BOX 52X. Additionally all these mailboxes may be grouped into a single location without any indicator of where the actual residences are at.

There is no fee for obtaining a new 911 address. The entire process can be done online and via email. Throughout this entire process we are here to help. Feel free to contact Captain Huffines at any time if you have questions.
