Captain Phillip McCarthey oversees the Grady County Sheriff's Office Training Division.
The mission of the Grady County Sheriff's Office Training Division is to provide the highest quality education and training to deputies of the Grady County Sheriff's Office and outside agencies.
The training division oversees the training for all full-time and reserve deputies of the Grady County Sheriff's Office. It formulates learning opportunities for our deputies to sustain their training requirements.
Our training division continually provides training resources to ensure our deputies are current in the most recent training and duty practices as well as ensuring our deputies are up to date on current changes in any laws and practices that affect our deputies in the performance of their duties and strives to provide skills, knowledge, application, and training to improve our deputy's ability to problem-solve effectively. The training division also reviews recruit performance, oversees remediation training as necessary, recommends appropriate actions to the Undersheriff, manages the field training process, and verifies that personnel documentation is properly maintained.
Captain McCarthey maintains our deputy's continuing education and certifications for the Grady County Sheriff's Office and is responsible for the implementation of evaluation of the Field Training Officer Program as well as maintains effective working relationships with deputies, officers, command staff, training officers, police executives and trainers across the state and with members of the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET).
Sheriff Boggess oversees the Grady County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team.
The SWAT Team Commander is Captain Phillip McCarthey, and the Assistant Commander is Lt. Daniel Ramirez.
The SWAT Team's missions vary from conducting property search warrants, felony arrest warrants, narcotics search warrants, and high-risk SWAT callouts.
SWAT callouts range from active shooter situations, barricaded suspects, hostage incidents, and other high-risk situations.
The SWAT Team assists our Patrol, Narcotics, and Fugitive Task Force Divisions when needed by using Specialized Weapons And Tactics to ensure the safety of the public, our deputies, and any other agencies we might be assisting.
